Gamerepublic/showcase/Leeds 29.10.09

Details from Eurogamer today @ Royal Armouries, Leeds.
Thousands of Yorkshire videogamers got the chance to play the latest game releases before anyone else in the UK. Screen Yorkshire and Game Republic partnered with Eurogamer to ensure 4,000 games enthusiasts could sample games that won't be released until Christmas 2009 and spring 2010. Taking place alongside the Expo was the GamesIndustry.biz Career Fair, the UK's premier recruitment event team for the games industry and a number of Yorkshire's leading games companies who also exhibited and gave careers advice.

Most of the Games & Industry Professionals who were here today will be @ BAF09 + so much more, so those that could not make it today will not miss out. See link below for diary of events:
GAMES YR2 + iMedia Yr2 = TUES 10th [with Mel & Chris] and then
GAMES YR1 + iMedia Yr1/2 = WEDS 11th NOV 09 [with Mel & Debs]

How to do the EVALUATION

Project Summary & Review - a 'HOW TO' Guide
Below is list of points to consider when reflecting on your work. It is important to provide as much detail as possible and use examples to support your statements:-
*Does the end product match your original intentions?
You should up-load your original brainstorm, sketches, original images, influences to demonstrate the start of your visualisations.
*Is the end product appropriate for your intended audience?
Compare to original ideas, did you change your mind? were you influenced by something new or someone else? Think about who the work is for i.e. Apple iPhone = the client - what type of people use this, age, gender, ethnicity etc. = your audience.
*Discuss the technical aspects of your work and highlight the strengths / areas to develop
Demonstrate your knowledge of the program [P.Shop/Flash/S.Mx] you used & include 'subject terminology' - did you use online tutorials? download fonts/brushes/textures - if so, say how you did this & why, what effect did this have on your work etc. What equipment did you use, d.camera, scanner, pencils, pastels etc.
Discuss the content / style of your work - ideally this should relate to your research
Did you encounter any problems when creating the product? If so how were they resolved?
What have you learnt from this experience?
What skills have been developed throughout this process?
Did you meet the deadline?
Did you have any problems with time management?
Finally...*If you had the opportunity to make this product again would you do anything different? And are you happy with the overall product? What did others say about your work [peers]? Their comments can be stored within your BLOG!

'Development Trailer' with SOUND

You should now have sourced, edited & added SOUND to your current Trailer/Cut Scene - even though it may not be complete - Remember it is a work in Progress - Your END TARGET for Production is 24th June for the College Digital Showcase [4-8pm] which you will all need to attend like last year. This will be a 'fun event' where you will get to show off your talents, as well as your 'gaming abilities', as we will have ALL the consoles & games available for you & our visitors!
Review the Trailer with the sound as a TEAM and RECORD what could be improved - did you include enough 'splash images' - was the sound good quality - did you include 'release date', 'platform', age ratings, symbols - Team Logo + members & their production roles????

Drawing Skills over Easter

After having interviews some of you have discovered that YOU MUST demonstrate drawing skills and have some sort of PORTFOLIO of sketches, explored media, reference drawings for buildings, environments and characters etc. Basically.... all the stuff I have been telling you that you would need & lets face it .... if you are successful & get into Uni .... this is after all .... part of what you will be doing for the next 3 YEARS! Soooooooo .... for the next few weeks AND over the Easter Hols - you need to build on what you can already do - use reference drawings to get you started - go out & take photographs - mess around with mixed media - take photocopies from books & enlarge them - scan / filter them in Photoshop. Don't forget to make it a variety of subjects - you may be better @ buildings than people?

The more you practice .... the better you will get .... the more you will get into it .... yr gonna need to, to get into this industry! Goodluck!

The Need 4 Visual Examples!

Today you got a rather long list of things to do - have done - or are still working on - I will post the image from the board later - but you ALL know what you need to do by Easter!
Those of you following me will have feedback - the rest of you - well what can I say - slackers!
This BLOG acts as a reference for production work & professional journal, which provides a lot of referencing across 4 Units with me - so if you DON't keep this up-to-date - your work WILL be referred!
Those of you that are doing this - well done - those who I can see just need to add 'VISUAL' references to support what you are talking about - as well as your Team Logo, Game Name logo, storyboard, plot/brainstorm - digital photos/textures/reference images & Max work - ALL need to be up-loaded - it also makes a massive difference to the look of the BLOG and those of you going to Uni, or have interviews, this is a really good way to show off your work!

The "Name of the Game"

We will b avin a meetin tomoro @ 11.30 in SF04 to make a decision for 'the name of the game'.
Once we have decided this we need 2 Copyright it & protect the idea - so we will b researching / identifying Intellectual Properties [Patents n Copyrights].
For those of u that still av last yrs work u can save yr self some time by looking for U63 stuff n poss some of Mark's work??? This is a big part of LO3 - so make sure u attend tomoro - it will prob take u 2 wks 2 complete this.
We will then b checkin we av covered ALL aspects for Units 4 LO's 1-3 [this also feeds into U:3 /70 + 72]. This will prob involve creating 'concept / mood boards/ ref. photo's for environments & textures / scanning in of storyboards / character development - DRAWING SKILLS - yes that is correct
